Fund managers keep hearing that AI will change how they work, but few have seen it applied to the daily grind of actually running a fund. This session from VC Lab and Decile Group teaches exactly that: a live walkthrough of Decile Hub's new AI agents covering fundraising, closing, deal flow, back office, and data rooms. It's built for emerging managers, aspiring VCs, and anyone who wants to understand what AI for venture capital looks like when it's baked into fund management software instead of bolted on.

Why AI for Venture Capital Is Easier Than Ever
Kelly Schricker, who leads Decile Group's education programs including VC Lab, Venture Institute, Emerging Institute, and LP Institute, opened with the conviction behind it all: venture capital is one of the most powerful tools ever built to solve society's biggest problems, and the world needs more VCs backing more founders in every corner of it. Decile Group has now helped launch over 900 venture funds across more than 80 countries, and all of its education programs are free.
The theme for VC Lab's Cohort 22 is that there's never been a better or easier time to start a fund, and AI is a big part of why. Woody Butler, product lead for Decile Hub, made the ambition plain: "We have basically built the Claude Code for Decile Hub." The same kind of agentic system powering cutting edge developer tools now sits inside the free platform managers already use to raise and run their funds.
Fundraising Agents That Tell You What Matters Today
The demo started where most managers spend their mornings: the investors dashboard. Woody typed a simple question, "What needs my attention today?" and the agent came back with a prioritized snapshot. Three people were waiting on signatures, nine LPs still needed tax info and wire instructions, and specific prospects were flagged as ready for a nudge. Every answer ended with the single most important thing to do that day, a deliberate design choice. A CRM with hundreds or thousands of contacts gets overwhelming fast, and the team built the system to answer one question above all: what should I do next?
It goes deeper than surfacing tasks. When Woody asked who was closest to committing, the agent read the notes on each prospect, spotted that one investor had verbally committed on a specific date and asked for a PACT that week, and suggested her as the top follow up. From there, one prompt composed a personalized email referencing the prior call, the connector who made the intro, and the investor's schedule. The system combines traditional rules based logic with carefully designed prompts, which is why the answers stay grounded in real pipeline data rather than guesswork.
Closing and Back Office Questions in Plain English
The closing section showed how natural language changes the way managers interact with their fund data. Questions like "How many LPs do I have closed?" or "What's the smallest check size I've taken from an LP so far?" return instant, specific answers pulled from capital accounts. Woody pointed out the mobile use case: you're at a conference, someone asks a question you don't know cold, and you just ask Hub from your phone.
Then it got more practical. "Who still owes money on our July capital call? Draft a wire chase email" had the agent check the capital call, identify the two unpaid LPs, calculate the amounts due, and draft separate chase emails using Hub's email variable system. A follow up prompt produced a fund snapshot of committed, called, wired, and uncalled capital. These are tasks that used to mean digging through spreadsheets, and now they're one sentence each.
Smarter Deal Flow: Enrichment, Thesis Scoring, and Auto Ingestion
Deal flow is where AI for venture capital saves the most repetitive hours. Hub automatically scores every deal against your thesis based on region, industry, and stage, so asking "What's the strongest deal in the pipeline and why?" returns a ranked answer with reasoning. Enrichment agents can search the web and other sources to fill in founder details, company data, and even the logo on a prospect record.
The bigger unlock is ingestion. The deals agent can connect to your Gmail and Airtable today, with Notion, Granola, and Google and Outlook calendars in the works. You can schedule a nightly or weekly poll so that when a founder cold emails you, Hub automatically scans the email, imports the prospect, enriches it, scores it against your thesis, and attaches and analyzes any deck that came with it. Woody's estimate is that managers with heavy deal flow could save dozens of hours a month, and setup takes about two clicks. You can also forward any email into Hub, drag messy files straight into the agent, or import thousands of deals at once from a CSV.
A Data Room That Answers Back
Every file uploaded to Decile Hub gets vectorized and summarized, so the platform knows what's inside your documents. In the demo, Woody asked for a summary of a technical PDF presentation and got one without opening the file. He then asked who had viewed it, and the agent reported that a prospect had looked at it for about 13 seconds. That's engagement tracking through conversation.
The file agent writes as well as reads. A single prompt like "Reorganize the LP presentation data room, put files in their respective folders" had the agent propose where each file belonged, ask for clarification on an ambiguous one, and request approval before moving anything. Woody also shared a habit worth stealing for any agent, in Hub or elsewhere: "Whenever you're using a new system, just say, hey, what can you do?" The agent will read through its own skills and tools and tell you capabilities you'd never have guessed.
Bringing AI for Venture Capital Together in One Prompt
The finale combined everything. Woody prompted: read the Q2 portfolio updates in the data room and draft a newsletter to closed investors and closing stage LPs. The agent searched the data room, checked closed capital accounts, pulled the closing stage of the investor pipeline, and assembled a draft newsletter from all of it. As Woody put it, "It's us rebuilding Claude Code for venture capital as a first class thing inside Decile Hub."
The agents are currently in a limited free beta while the team figures out long term pricing, so his advice was simple: get on Hub now and use them as much as possible. If you've been waiting for a low risk way to try AI for venture capital workflows, this is it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Decile Hub handle privacy and data security? Woody was direct: "Your data is not our business." Hub is GDPR compliant, the privacy policy is published in plain text, and the only internal use of data is anonymized, aggregated reporting. Email sync is optional, only imports messages matched to contacts you've uploaded, and you control sync settings per person or account wide. You can export all of your data at any time.
Can Hub enrich contacts from LinkedIn? Not automatically. Scraping LinkedIn violates its terms of service, and no service does it reliably. Decile Hub's answer is a Chrome extension: paste in your API key, view a profile, and import its data into Hub with one click, manually and safely.
Can I import deals from Excel or unstructured files? Yes. Structured spreadsheets go through the CSV import, which handles thousands of deals at a time. For messy or unstructured data, drag the file into the deals agent and ask it to ingest the deals, the same way you'd hand a file to Claude or ChatGPT.
Can I connect my own AI tools like Claude to Hub? Yes. Under Settings and then API, Hub provides an MCP server with setup instructions, and almost everything in the Hub UI can be done through your own Claude agent. Some capabilities live only in Hub's built in agents, though, which is part of what makes them worth trying.
